The 16 Best New Restaurants in America 2019, 7/10/19
“…Karen Akunowicz cut her own path with her solo debut, a lovely ode to Emilia-Romagna… Loud, busy, and fun, Fox and the Knife feels like a party. Boston didn’t know it needed another Italian restaurant, but it’s so lucky it got this one.”

“The highly anticipated Italian enoteca from Myers + Chang alum Karen Akunowicz — who is also a James Beard award winner and a Top Chef alum — is already off to a ravishing start in South Boston, just a few months after its debut. The energy-packed Fox & the Knife feels like a party, and the early evening aperitivo time will quickly become a neighborhood mainstay.”

“…here in Boston, in the care of Akunowicz with her shock of pink hair, and in the light of a neon “stay foxy” sign, and with the din of Bostonians turning up with spritzes and Americanos, it all feels exactly right.”

Cheese Pull of the Year
“In the hands of Karen Akunowicz, focaccia becomes a blistered, crispy rosemary-crowned round, split right through its equator and packed with mellow, oozing Taleggio cheese.”

Best of Boston 2019: Best New Restaurant
“Though the place hums like she’s been at it for years, her Modena, Italy–inspired cuisine—from supple, Gorgonzola-dolce-filled tortelli to a grilled-broccoli riff on Caesar salad, all washed down with aperitif-invoking cocktails—is fresh and frisky.”

Restaurant Reviews, 5/21/19
“Emilia-Romagna holds some of my most intimately learned soul food. That’s a tall order to fill. And Akunowicz does so exceedingly well—not by creating an exact replica of the cuisine, but by absorbing all of that Italian intel and refracting it within her own framework. The results tread a remarkable line between classicism and explicit ingenuity.”

10 Dishes to Try Right Now in Boston, 5/28/19
Spaghetti con Vongole
“…head over to try one dish that made an especially strong impression: spaghetti con vongole. Akunowicz, inspired by her time cooking in Modena, enhances her house-made pasta with clams, saffron fronds, fennel, and tomato butter.”

Foxy Ladies, 4/5/19
“Pastas are sensibly sized, original and beautifully executed. We swooned over simple zafferano spaghetti con vongole ($20) with shelled clams under a vivid tangle of saffron threads and fennel fronds, the plate made novel and rich with a sauce of “tomato butter.” Much hand labor goes into the fabulous tortelli di pastinaca ($24), purse-shaped ravioli stuffed with pureed parsnips and mild gorgonzola, barely sauced with walnuts, brown butter and balsamic, a halo of vivid radicchio offering bitter contrast.”
